Introduction

What does lean management mean for industry in the Grand Est?

The Grand Est brings together industries with very different profiles — continuous process in the Moselle, chemicals and pharmaceuticals in the Bas-Rhin, food processing in the Marne, automotive and mechanical engineering in the Ardennes and the Vosges. Lean is applied differently in each area: SMED and TPM for heavy process industries, pull flows and 5S for assembly, Lean Six Sigma for pharmaceuticals. An example of a regional assignment: a food-processing SME in the Champagne area substantially reduced its changeover times, absorbing its seasonal peaks without additional temporary staff. We adapt the tool to the field — never the other way round.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Which towns and cities in the Grand Est do you cover?+
The entire region: Metz, Thionville, Nancy, Épinal, Strasbourg, Colmar, Mulhouse, Reims, Châlons-en-Champagne, Troyes, Charleville-Mézières. Our dedicated pages set out our work in Metz (lean management) and Strasbourg (operational excellence).
Does Lean work as well in pharmaceuticals as in steelmaking?+
Yes, but not with the same tools. In pharmaceuticals and chemicals (Alsace), Lean Six Sigma prevails: reducing variability, compliance, batch release. In steelmaking (Moselle), SMED and TPM come first: equipment availability, product changeovers. Our first task is to choose the right angle for your process.
Is regional funding available for a Lean programme?+
Yes: schemes run by the Grand Est region and Bpifrance (diagnostics and Industrie du Futur grants) can cover part of the consulting work for SMEs and mid-sized companies. We build these schemes into the structuring from the scoping stage onwards.
Do you work with SMEs or only with large sites?+
Both. The Grand Est economy is built on industrial SMEs and mid-sized companies — mechanical engineering in the Vosges, food processing in Champagne, plastics — where a targeted project (5S, SMED) delivers gains within a few weeks. Large sites are covered by transformation programmes over 6-18 months.
What is the starting point for a multi-site regional Lean programme?+
A pilot site. We demonstrate the method and the gains at one site (3-6 months), then roll out to the others with your trained internal champions. This is faster and less risky than a simultaneous rollout.
