Industrial Refractories

Supervise the installation of your refractories — guarantee quality and service life.

The best refractory specification counts for nothing if the installation is poor. SXE Consulting supervises your refractory lining projects on site — demolition, installation, quality control, commissioning — to guarantee a compliant installation and maximise service life. Throughout Europe and internationally.

01 — DefinitionWhat is on-site refractory supervision?

On-site refractory supervision is the independent technical oversight of a refractory lining project, from demolition of the old refractories to commissioning of the new ones. The supervisor checks the compliance of the installation, adherence to procedures and quality at every stage.

It is the assurance that the refractory investment — materials + labour + production shutdown — delivers the expected service life. A poor installation can halve the service life of a refractory that was otherwise perfectly specified.

Why installation quality is decisive

A poorly installed refractory — incorrect joints, faulty anchors, unsuitable drying, tolerances not met — degrades prematurely, whatever its intrinsic quality. Installation is often the number one factor in actual service life. Supervising it means protecting the entire investment.

Supervision independent of the installers

Our independence from the installation contractors guarantees objective oversight. We are neither judge nor party: our only interest is that your installation is compliant and durable. We supervise throughout Europe and internationally, including on complex projects abroad.

02 — MethodHow do you supervise the installation?

Supervision in four steps, from site preparation to commissioning. A continuous on-site presence and quality control at every critical phase.

  1. Site preparation (materials, teams, schedule)

Upfront verification: compliance of the delivered materials, qualification of the installation teams, approval of the schedule and procedures. Nothing starts without validated preparation.

    Step 1
  2. Supervision of the demolition

Oversight of the demolition of the old refractories: safety, preservation of structures, surface preparation for the new installation.

    Step 2
  3. Supervision of the installation of the new refractories

Continuous monitoring of the installation: joints, anchors, geometric tolerances, adherence to manufacturer procedures. Immediate correction of deviations.

    Step 3
  4. Quality control and commissioning

Final quality control, supervision of drying and heat-up (the critical heating curve), approval of commissioning.

    Step 4

05 — FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Why supervise the installation if the contractor is competent?+
Even a competent contractor benefits from independent oversight: it sets a quality standard, detects deviations in real time and documents compliance. On a refractory project, an undetected installation defect can halve the service life — the cost of supervision is marginal against that risk.
Do you work internationally?+
Yes. We supervise refractory projects throughout Europe and internationally, including complex projects abroad. Our on-site presence is the heart of this service.
How long does site supervision last?+
It depends on the scale of the refractory lining: from a few days for a targeted area to several months for the complete relining of a large furnace. We maintain a continuous presence throughout all critical phases.
Does supervision cover drying and heat-up?+
Yes — it is a critical phase that is often neglected. Heating up too quickly can crack a perfectly installed refractory. We supervise the heating curve through to full commissioning.
Are you independent of the installation contractors?+
Completely. We have no ties to installation contractors or manufacturers. Our only interest is the compliance and durability of your installation. That independence is what guarantees objective oversight.
