Engineering design: why innovation matters

We often hear on the factory floor: “that was designed by an engineer again…”. Very often, maintenance and production operators complain about the sometimes questionable design of mechanical assemblies. This situation is not only frustrating for those working in the field, but it can also lead to inefficiencies and additional costs.

Let us imagine for a moment that engineering departments spent more time in the field. By adopting a Lean approach, they could better understand the challenges and constraints faced by production and maintenance teams. This immersion would enable engineers to design more suitable and more robust solutions.

Why Lean Design is crucial

Lean Design is not only about eliminating waste, but also about integrating operators' feedback from the earliest design phases. By working closely with production teams, engineers can identify potential problems before they become major obstacles. Here are a few advantages of this approach:

  • Continuous Feedback : Put continuous feedback mechanisms in place to gather and integrate input from production teams.
