{"id":10299,"date":"2021-09-16T19:53:05","date_gmt":"2021-09-16T17:53:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sxe-consulting.com\/?p=10299"},"modified":"2024-08-09T16:43:10","modified_gmt":"2024-08-09T14:43:10","slug":"the-7-muda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sxe-consulting.com\/en\/les-7-muda\/","title":{"rendered":"The 7 MUDA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As we saw in our last <a href=\"https:\/\/sxe-consulting.com\/en\/understanding-the-principles-of-kaizen\/\">article of 20\/08\/2021<\/a> KAIZEN is more a state of mind than an actual method.<\/p>\n<p>However, the reduction of waste (MUDA) is a common thread running through the Continuous Improvement approach.<\/p>\n<p>Muda refers to any activity that consumes resources without creating added value.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Overproduction<\/strong>: producing more than necessary.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Waiting\u00a0<\/strong>: products or operators that have to wait between 2 tasks or steps.<\/li>\n<li><strong>transport<\/strong>: any movement of materials, parts, products, documents or information that does not bring value to the customer.<\/li>\n<li><strong>over-processing<\/strong>: a process that is too complex in relation to the selling price.<\/li>\n<li><strong>overstocking<\/strong>: anything that is not essential to completing the task at the right time.<\/li>\n<li><strong>motion<\/strong>: any unnecessary movement of people, generally linked to poor workstation ergonomics, which does not bring value to the customer<\/li>\n<li><strong>defects<\/strong>: which require rework, additional inspection, scrapping, customer dissatisfaction\u2026<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is also possible to add an 8th: <strong>Under-Utilisation of Skills<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>A lack of training, rigid and authoritarian management, and little motivation, recognition or involvement lead to an under-utilisation of employees\u2019 skills, <strong>and seriously harm creativity and team spirit!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Shigeo_Shing%C5%8D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Shigeo Shingo<\/a> a great expert in Lean Manufacturing, said:<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0<strong>The most dangerous waste is the waste we do not see<\/strong>\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Seeing waste is the first step towards eliminating it!<\/p>\n<p>Go into the field, follow the company\u2019s processes, map them\u2026 Human nature is made this way: once we see a defect, a problem, a waste, we can no longer carry on as before; we search for and always find a suitable solution to eliminate it.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Comme nous l\u2019avons vu dans notre dernier article du 20\/08\/2021 le KAIZEN est plus un \u00e9tat d\u2019esprit qu\u2019une r\u00e9elle m\u00e9thode.
